چکیده
An enhanced production of strange particles per pion in heavy ion collisions compared to elementary p+p interactions was observed in Pb+Pb reactions at the CERN SPS. New results obtained on small colliding systems, C+C and Si+Si, also show an enhancement. It increases steeply with system size and reaches in the larger system almost the level measured in Pb+Pb reactions. The shapes of the transverse mass spectra of strange mesons (K + , K − , φ) and baryons (Λ, ¯ Λ) are consistent with the presence of collective transverse flow, which is already visible in small systems (C+C) and increases with the system size. The ¯ Λ/Λ ratio together with the K + /K − ratio yields information about the baryochemical potential µ B. The potential, determined at midrapidity, increases with the system size since the stronger stopping shifts baryons from near beam and projectile rapidity towards midrapidity. For the 4π yields µ B is almost independent of the size of the colliding system.

We argue that the shape of the system-size dependence of strangeness production in nucleus-nucleus collisions can be understood in a picture that is based on the formation of clusters of overlapping strings. A string percolation model combined with a statistical description of the hadronization yields a quantitative agreement with the data at √ s N N = 17.3 GeV. The model is also applied to RHI...

The final state in heavy-ion collisions has a higher degree of strangeness saturation than the one produced in collisions between elementary particles like p − p or p − ¯ p. A systematic analysis of this phenomenon is made for C − C, Si − Si and P b − P b collisions at the CERN SPS collider and for Au − Au collisions at RHIC and at AGS energies. Strangeness saturation is shown to increase smoot...

A systematic analysis of data on strangeness and pion production in nucleon–nucleon and central nucleus–nucleus collisions is presented. It is shown that at all collision energies the pion/baryon and strangeness/pion ratios indicate saturation with the size of the colliding nuclei. The energy dependence of the saturation level suggests that the transition to the Quark Gluon Plasma occurs betwee...
متن کاملSPS energy scan results and physics prospects at FAIR
Experimental studies of nucleus-nucleus collisions in the whole SPS energy range are reviewed. Selected topics such as statistical properties of the hadronic phase, strangeness production, fluctuations and correlations are discussed with regard to information on the onset of deconfinement and the critical point of strongly interacting matter. In spite of the very interesting results obtained in...

The yields and spectra of strange hadrons have each been measured by STAR as a function of centrality in √ sNN = 200 GeV AuAu collisions. By comparison to measurements in pp and dAu at √ sNN = 200 GeV and in AuAu at √ sNN = 62 GeV the dependence on system size and energy is studied. Short-lived resonances, such as Σ(1385) and Λ(1520), that may decay and regenerate in the medium, are used to exa...
